7 september 2013 a peaceful evening

Vale of Health

...at the seat 'in loving memory of Paul Ross' on a silent evening beside the pond on which raindrops begin to fall from a pink-grey cloud in fading sunlight beneath blue autumn sky... fish rising to catch flying insects as i contemplate a bottle of overripe blackberries collected beside the steep path only a few metres from a bus stop above the village...

...content with sight of light-reflecting ripples on the water... moving as one phenomenon... and driven by a light breeze... that has now ceased... as have the raindrops... as the pink-grey cloud moves eastward...

...thinking also of several recent diary entries describing human attempts at freedom and order... (some of which have not yet been edited or put on line)... and how different is human invention from natural evolution... clearly our works lack the easy perfection of things natural...

...at which a coot arrives on the water surface with many rapid-splashing wing beats while other small water birds and a swan come into view... as aircraft fly slowly and stiffly in the distance as they turn westward towards Heathrow...

...a man with a small boy tells me that there was a rainbow beyond the trees while i was writing these notes...

...now to walk on... and to a supermarket...

...the man and boy are feeding the swans as i listen to the ch-ch-ch sound from a bird... (perhaps a parakeet)...

...now on the western edge of the heath from a spot from where the red lights on The Shard... (and red lights on the other city towers) are visible beyond the trees surrounding this part of the heath... and in the relative silence and dusk a man walks silently by... with several other people speaking loudly and almost simultaneously as they approach... the night will be soon... the air is cool... and the sky is darkening blue...

...first day for several months to be wearing a pullover... temperature dropped from 28 to 18C... yes autumn has started...
