28 june 2009 after rain

heath extension

...18th century view of landscape with figures framed by overhanging branches of an oak tree... in the sky is a large advertising flag towed by a helicopter... and now it's descending behind distant trees... i arrived here tired after a day indoors during heavy rain and thunder... warm and humid... but now reviving in this outdoor place...

...a man and a woman in summer clothing... she stops to touch her toes while he waits... and now they disappear into the surrounding woodland...

...most of the people have also disappeared and my attention goes to lines of tall grasses each side of the path before me...

...the man and woman have reappeared... this time they are walking to the north wheras before they were walking south...

...energy increases and so i continue walking, towards Ken Wood if i can reach it this evening...

...i followed an unusual bird call (bursts of 7 or 8 medium pitch screeches) in the trees surrounding the Seven Sisters Ponds... stopped to listen, as did a man with a dog... he spotted a heron, immobile, at the top of a small oak tree... but the sound continued from somewhere else... i whistle gently as did a man whom i met here some weeks ago... he whistled to attract a robin... but this evening no robin appears...

...the reeds have grown to fill this pond and i see no birds at all but i can hear popular music from not far away... and the sounds of occasional cars...

...'wonderful, to find this, in a city' said the man who spotted the heron...

...revived, i walked back along Sandy Road...
