Thank you very much for recognising my work of the 1950s and 60s which, combined with the work of many others, became known as design methods, design ergonomics, design technology, and even design science.

I am surprised and delighted to receive one of the first Korean Design Achievement Awards, and honorary membership of the Korean Society of Design Science - especially as Korea is one of the oldest civilisations.

My apologies for not being able to be present with you today - but electronic presence is a reality too, a magical part of modern living...

I have written my memories of the early days of design research, and of the early days of the future (in which we live now). My thanks to Professor Lee for suggesting this subject. At first I felt reluctant to do so but eventually the words flowed.

That is all I can say now. I hope you will read my memories of the early days and that your own work will have a greater and better effect upon the world than that of earlier generations!
