25 september 2002 this is a city

17:01
strange but friendly London
I'm looking out over the city in the dusk
at already-lit buildings
to the sound of church bells
and sitting on a seat inscribed thus:

in loving memory of our dear auntie from her family

a single string of words
written with love and without egotism

the trees are perfectly still

I can see the flats overlooking the heath
where my great aunt or distant cousin lived
she was a school teacher
but I barely knew her

the underground trains are not running today

this a city
