10 january 2007 the poetry of existence

13:46 outdoor cafe... few people eating outside today... cooler, windier, drier, with a few pink-cream clouds moving quickly south-east... on the way here i stopped to look at central London in the distance with its towers and its antennae in astonishing contrast to the surrounding hills and vegetation and cloudy misty air... the sight of all this changes my thoughts from local struggle to the vastness of both nature and artifice at this historic moment in which they are being globally connected in many minds...

...when i arrived at this table a robin arrived too, hopping on the table... it passed within 20 cm of my hands... and then close to my feet... and a kestrel flew irregularly southwards between the trees and the buildings...

...there are not many eating outside today... on my way into the cafe i passed a woman who looked as if she is dying, so pale and so frail did she look...

...the sky cleared while i was writing and the light is beginning to diminish... time to walk on...

...on the way back i bought three bags of food at a supermarket... about two dozen items from about one dozen countries, i guess...
